Somaliland Women Development Association (SOWDA) is an indigenous Women NGO with its head office in Hargeisa. It is a voluntary, Non-political Organization dedicated to improving the lives of Women and children in Somaliland. It was established in 1988 Concerned about the welfare of Somali Women and children in the refugee camps in Ethiopia, It initially began its work at the height of the civil war by taking care of war wounded. The organization has since, come a long way and has reoriented its goals in 1991. Today it takes an active part in the rehabilitation and reconstruction activities in the country Special emphasis has been placed on the most disadvantaged sections in the society such as women and children who suffer economic hardships and discrimination
